Meet Peaches, y’all! Isn’t she adorable? She and another little cutie, Marmalade, were rescued from a hoarding situation after the death of their person. Both kittens need a new home to call their own. Hopefully some kickass human will adopt them both. (In time for Christmas! And shower them with gifts come December 25th! And love and hug and cuddle them forever!)

Here’s what SNKC has to say about Peaches:

Peaches
Domestic Short Hair: An adoptable cat in Kansas City, MO
Small • Young • Female

Peaches is in foster care and rescued from a horrible hoarding situation. There were over 30+ cats rescued from this situation and had been left in a trailer for weeks after their owner passed away. Peaches is one of the cuddliest cats I have ever met. She loves to rub and be stroked. She will lay with you and sit with you. She liked to follow us from room to room. She is less than a year old and likely to be a small cat when full-grown. She gets along well with other cats and small dogs, probably any dog, but all we have are small ones. She has not bothered plants in the house and uses the litter box well. If you are interested in adopting Marmalade please email spayandneuterkc@aol.com

Spay & Neuter Kansas City is an awesome group that provides low-cost spay & neuter and vaccination services in the KC area. The also provide education and outreach services, run low-cost dog training classes, maintain a “pet” food pantry, and help find homes for animals in need. Currently they’re in need of in-kind donations (such as dog and cat food, hay, litter boxes, dog houses, and cleaning products), as well as donations of money (or perhaps services?) to repair their outreach truck. Every little bit helps!

You should also know that Wayside Waifs is holding a special “All I Want For Christmas Is YOU!” Adoption Event this Saturday, December 3rd (that’s tomorrow, folks!) from 10AM to 6PM. Stop by and meet the 300+ plus nonhumans who need a kind-hearted soul (that’s you) to bring them in from the cold this holiday season.

All adoptions are just $25! Second chances, is there any gift greater?

2010 FSMas Card - Ralphie (shot his eye out)

Merry whatever-you-celebrate, y’all! We interrupt your holiday festivities to bring you this week’s Saturday Garbage Plate link roundup, which has featured festive dishes and desserts throughout the month of December. Above is the “official” 2010 Garbato-Brady criFSMas card; below, this week’s #nom roundup, followed by the holiday card outtakes. From all of us to you and yours, we hope your Christma-Hana-Kwanza is one of peace and pasta – with a healthy side of pizza, of course!

In other news, the website veganpizzaday.com is trying to develop a comprehensive list of eateries that offer vegan pizza options. Please add to the database if you can, mkay?

Also, PCRM’s next 21-Day Vegan Kickstart is scheduled to begin on January 1st. You can learn more and register for the course here.

Happy holidays!

Saturday Garbage Plate: Happy Hanukkah!

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, we’re launching right into the festive, vegan x-mas (and Hanukkah!) NOMs. I hope you like gingerbread, peppermint and soy nog, folks – ’tis the season, after all!

Also, the latest edition of The Scoop – Spay & Neuter Kansas City’s quarterly newsletter – is now online! Read or download a .pdf copy here.

I don’t have much else to share this week; criFSMas chores – not to mention the conclusion of veganmofo – have pretty much consumed all my free time. (Sigh.) So just check out this answering machine recording of my 90+-year-old grandmother chatting with one of my brother’s high school teachers a few years back. She was shocked – shocked, I say! – to learn that her youngest grandson had been forging his mom’s signature on early releases in order to cut class and go to Taco Bell.

Scandalous!
