This week’s Garbage Plate is sweets piled on top sweets, with some cheap eats on the side and an after-dinner mint shot acting as an oh-so-refreshing chaser. Can I get a #nomnom?

By the way, it’s not too late to celebrate a gentle Thanksgiving by going vegan and sponsoring a turkey rather than consuming one this holiday season!

Farm Sanctuary’s Celebration FOR the Turkeys:
Enjoy this footage from our 2006 and 2007 Celebrations FOR the Turkeys at our New York Shelter. Our rescued turkeys become the guests of honor and indulge in a festive feast of pumpkin pie, squash, cranberries, and other goodies made just for them!

Another week, another seven days of veganmofo nom-ness! Let’s get right to it, shall we?

Hey Chicago peeps! Did you know that Ste Martaen now operates a vegan food truck with Soul Vegetarian? No? Well, now you do! Keep your eyes peeled for this vegan oasis, which will be roaming the streets evenings Tuesday through Friday and all day Saturday. They even take travel route requests! Get the details here.

Saturday Garbage Plate: It’s Vegan MoFo, yo!

In honor of Vegan MoFo – the Vegan Month of Food, for all you rubes who have not been paying attention – our daily #nomz on Twitter is all #veganmofo, all month. Also: there are only so many vegan pizza recipes to go around.

Because I’ve had my hands full with mofo blogging, I don’t really have anything else to share with y’all this week. There are some pretty awesome contests and giveaways happening this month for VMF; I included a brief roundup as part of yesterday’s Friday Food post over at my other place, but for a complete list, check out the official thread at the PPK.

Also, have you heard about the Cooks Source kerfuffle? No? Background here; do follow the hilarity on Facebook and Twitter, if you can.

Nerd rage, ’tis a force to be reckoned with. Just ask Judith Griggs, she’ll tell you – and then charge you $130 for the privilege.

Saturday Garbage Plate: Happy Halloweegan!

October 30th, 2010 6:49 pm by Kelly

lol kaylee - b purty ether way

Kaylee, our 12-year-old rat terrier, dressed as a pumpkin several Halloweegans ago.
Her lol dog caption reads, “doggierella / turns 2 pumkin @ 12PM.”
Here, the photo’s title is really its subtitle: “lol kaylee – b purty ether way.”
Damn straight! My girl is bootyfull!

Those of you following us on Twitter may have noticed a break in our regular, pizza-related #noming. In honor of Halloweegan, we featured a variety of vegan Halloween recipes. And so, without further a-BOO!…

Just in time for Halloween: Pictures of Muslims Wearing Things. SCARY THINGS! Muahahaha!

Also, for those masochists and chronic procrastinators who have yet to buy their Halloween candy and/or costumes, hit up:

1) The Official Guide to Vegan Halloween Candy, by the sweet-teethed editors at VegNews; and

2) Take Back Halloween, “A costume guide for women with imagination.” (My top pick? Medusa. Definitely Medusa.)

This Monday, November 1st is World Vegan Day! It’s also Day Numero Uno of Vegan MoFo IV; be there or…don’t be. It’s up to you, honestly. But with 450+ bloggers from all over the world sharing their very bestest vegan recipes, stories, anecdotes and food not-porn, it’ll be your loss! You can follow my progress at www.easyvegan.info, if you’d like. I already have 16 posts finished, queued up and ready to go. No m’am, I am not playing around this year! Okay, I am. But hard! I’m playing haaaard! (In my best pirate impersonation.)

Don’t forget to vote (including YES on PROP B) Tuesday!!!

Last but not least, Kansas City vegan eatery Füd recently received a writeup in the Kansas City Star. Check it: At vegan eatery Füd, barbecue means jackfruit. Smileyface spoiler: it’s mostly positive, though the puzzlement over jackfruit seems…odd, somehow. (It’s a legitimate foodstuff, peoples. No one ever suggested that vegans consume it 24/7!)

Saturday Garbage Plate: we can has pizzas?

funny pictures of dogs with captions

Her head resting atop a pile of red cardboard takeout boxes, a doe-eyed dog gazes upward, presumably at the pizza delivery person or other Human in Charge. The lol caption reads, “ai jus wants to smell it a little.” Such a fibber, that one!

#vegan #noms on the twitters this week:

Also, have voted in Pizza Express’s Create Your Pizza Challenge yet? No? Well, what are you waiting for? Give the Pizza Levantina some electoral love, pretty please with Daiya on top?: www.pizzaexpress.com/create-your-pizza/vote/

And let’s close things out with a super-adorable song from Sesame Street: “I Love My Hair,” which encourages young girls of color to love their hair, as is, without the use of chemicals, dyes, straight irons, and other miscellaneous “beauty” aids (read: torture devices). You can read an interview with songwriter Joey Mazzarino, who wrote the song for his young daughter, at the Huffington Post.

For those who cannot view the video, here are the lyrics (via Clutch Magazine):

Don’t need a trip to the beauty shop,
’cause I love what I got on top.
It’s curly and it’s brown and it’s right up there!
You know what I love? That’s right, my hair!
I really love my hair.
I love my hair. I love my hair.
There’s nothing else that can compare with my hair.
I love my hair, so I must declare:
I really, really, really love my hair.
Wear a clippy or in a bow
Or let it sit in an afro
My hair looks good in a cornrow
It does so many things you know, that’s why I let it grow
I love my hair, I love my hair
I love it and I have to share
I love my hair, I love my hair!
I want to make the world aware I love my hair.
I wear it up. I wear down. I wear it twisted all around.
I wear braids and pigtails too.
I love all the things my hair can do.
In barrettes or flying free, ever perfect tresses you’ll see
My hair is part of me, an awesome part of me
I really love my hair!
