Pop, what a pretty boy! Unfortunately he’s a bit traumatized from living with too many cats and too little food, so he needs a patient, loving home to help coax him out of his shell. If you think that’s you, give HELP Humane Society today. Or think about adopting one of the other wonderful felines currently in the care of this no-kill shelter – help free up a spot for another cat in need!

Tabby/Domestic Short Hair Mix: An adoptable cat in Belton, MO
Small • Adult • Male

Is this boy gorgeous or not? He literally looks like he is ‘painted’. He was rescued from a horrible situation where cats were just breeding and breeding and no one was even feeding them. Luckily they lived through it and got to safety at our shelter. Pop is very timid with strangers, so he would need a kind patient person to adopt him. He really loves affection but wow, he is just too scared to ask for it. However, after we close at night, he seems to come out of his shell, so we believe that in a quiet home, no children, he would do great! How can you resist such a gorgeous boy, we hope you give him the chance he deserves!! Pop, boy, born 6/09

HELP Humane is a non-profit TRUE No Kill animal shelter currently run on individual donations and fundraising alone. (just south of Kansas City). Cats have been FeLV/FIV tested and are negative unless otherwise stated. Dogs have been heartworm tested and are on heartworm preventative. They will live with us until they end their life’s journey or find a permanent home. Come Visit Us! Find-a-Friend Friday: Jasmine

Jasmine is happy to meet you!
Photos courtesy of Angels Left Behind.

Pit bull type dogs have the widest, silliest, happiest grins, don’t they? Like Jasmine here – it’s hardly an exaggeration to say that her smile’s a mile wide. And she’s got a lot to smile about – the nice people at Angels Left Behind pulled her from a high-kill facility in Georgia just as her time there had expired. Imagine that smile, nearly snuffed out.

Now she needs a new home to call her own, fresh grass to roll around in, perhaps even a sibling to share her love and shenanigans with. If you think this might be you, go visit her today!

American Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull Terrier Mix: An adoptable dog in Belton, MO
Large • Adult • Female

Jasmine is a beautiful, sweet American Stafford Terrier/Pit Bull. She was rescued from a high kill shelter in Rome, GA the same day she was to be euthanized. Jasmine is new to our rescue so we are still learning about her likes and dislikes. What we do know is that Jasmine LOVES, LOVES people and thinks she’s a lap dog. Jasmine walks well on a leash and seems to have basic manners. It appears that Jasmine has had a sheltered life. Things like garage doors, the automatic doors at Petsmart scare her. Right now, we are still assessing her with other dogs and cats. So far, she doesn’t appear to be aggressive towards dogs, but gets really jealous when other dogs are getting attention. We will be working with her on this issue.

Jasmine is staying at Man’s Best Friend Pet Resort in Belton, MO. We would love for you to stop by and meet this gorgeous girl. Just call first, ask for Judy and schedule an apt. 816-331-4364 Jasmine is up to date on shots and will be spayed before being adopted. No exceptions. A home visit is required. This is to ensure that Jasmine is going to a wonderful home. Please make sure to check with your city for any restrictions on this misunderstood breed. If you would like to meet this sweet girl, please email me at or Judy at

Find-a-Friend Friday: Pan

September 7th, 2012 11:23 am by Kelly

I can only assume that every photo of Pan is blurry because HE’S A DAEMON!
Photos courtesy of Divapets Cat Rescue.

Pan is a skinny, scrappy little guy who’s spent all of his one year with Divapets rescue. His siblings were all adopted, and yet Pan (Pan? Short for Pantalaimon, perhaps? Sraffies holla!) remains. Not fair, right? Let’s see if we can change that!

Domestic Short Hair – Gray And White/Siamese Mix: An adoptable cat in Merriam, KS
Small • Young • Male

Meet Pan………..a fine young cat who gets along well with dogs, other cats and is especially sweet & gentle. He would likely do well with children.

Pan is small, sleek and lean and appears to have some Siamese heritage. He is mostly white with some gray tabby ear caps, an eye patch, tail and back leg spots. He also has the cutest little gray tabby chin spot, like a goatee.

Pan is the last of his litter unadopted, and somehow got to be almost a year old without going to his forever home. He has been waiting very patiently, and watched all of his littermates find their forever homes. Now isn’t he a very deserving boy? Handsome, young, plenty of play, and cuddling will be what you can expect from this lovely boy.

An application is required prior to visiting our animals in their foster homes and to help ensure a good fit between adopter and adoptee. Please CLICK HERE to fill out an adoption application. One of our volunteers will get back to you within 24 hours. Please contact us for more info!

If you’re looking for a playful new soul-friend, Pan’s the guy for you!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Petey

Petey the beagle.

Petey? That’s my dog kid’s name too! Well, his name is spelled a bit differently – Peedee – but it’s all the same to canine ears. And yesterday was his tenth birthday, which is probably why Petey here jumped out at me!

Petey is a friendly, mature beagle boy who’s currently being fostered in Rapid City, South Dakota, but is listed with Basset and Beagle Rescue of the Heartland (BBRH) in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. If you fancy this little guy – and I know that you do; how could you not? – transport might be an adoption. FYI!

Beagle: An adoptable dog in Shawnee Mission, KS
Medium • Adult • Male

Petey is a seven year old beagle who loves trick-or-treating. If you treat, he will do tricks all day long! He is friendly and outgoing and always has a smile on his face. He gets along with the other dogs in the house and loves to go for walks and spend time outside. Petey is well-mannered and walks nicely on the leash. He is also crate trained and knows how to sit, shake and sit pretty. He is very snuggly and will happily sit in your lap and watch TV. Petey is fairly quiet, but still knows how to be a beagle when the situation calls for it. He is just an all around great dog and will make a nice family addition. He is neutered, microchipped, on heartworm treatment and up to date on all of his shots. Petey is a chunky monkey at 47 pounds. Like many of us, he could stand to lose a few, but a good diet and daily walks should help. He is currently being fostered in Rapid City, SD but transport can be arranged for the right home! His adoption fee is $150.00. New video!

Doing the dinner dance. Guess his foster peeps aren’t lying when they say that Petey loves to eat!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Wanda

August 24th, 2012 11:19 am by Kelly

Wanda is a skinny, scrappy little kitty with lots of personality!
Photos courtesy of Companion Pet Rescue.

Wanda, what a catch! Good with other cats and dogs, mellow but with a mischievous streak, a loving mother and devoted friend. Why on earth isn’t all of Kansas City falling down at her doorstep?

Wanda, aka Pool Shark
Domestic Short Hair/Dilute Tortoiseshell Mix: An adoptable cat in North Kansas City, MO
Small • Adult • Female

Although her “Official” name is Wanda, this funny little girl has several nicknames. Sometimes we call her “Mellow Yellow”, because her eyes are the same color as Mellow Yellow soda. “Mellow” also fits her when she’s sprawled out, chilling without a care in the world. And unbelievably, she doesn’t seem to care when I vacuum around her. I’ve never had a cat that would lay there while I vacuum in the same room, much less under the chair she’s in, or with the vacuum pushing the kitty bed she’s laying on!

Other times, we call her “Momma cat” because when she came to us, she was quite pregnant, and had a litter of kittens. She was a proud and protective momma, and the nickname stuck.

Recently, we’ve started calling her “Pool Shark”, because she has figured out how to get the pool balls out of our pool table! Granted, it’s an old table, and it’s easy for me to pull them out…but I couldn’t believe it when she did it! She’s a petite little thing, and I’m surprised she had aspirations to play with pool balls! After she gets them out, she bats them around.

I would guess that Wanda is about a year and a half old. She enjoys going outside on the patio, or will follow me as I weed and water my flower bed. I think she would be equally happy as an indoor or indoor/outdoor kitty. She’ll follow me all over, but doesn’t make any motion to go out the door when I let the dogs out. She just sits there and waits for them all to come back in. But if you offer for her to go out, she’ll follow you.

See all of Wanda’s pictures on her online album here.

Wanda is extremely social, and is still quite a little fiesty kitten sometimes. She was a wonderful mother, but that’s over now and she wants a little spoiling of her own! Wanda kneads ALL the time, and loves to be with people. She’s not obnoxious about it, but she follows me everywhere I go. Wanda is not a lazy and laid back kitty all the time. Sometimes she has a lot of spunk and personality.

Wanda would love to be someone’s companion kitty. She plays with other kitties, and will chase and gallop around with them. I think she would do fine with another kitty, given a little space at first.

Wanda would do fine with dogs, because she doesn’t hesitate to put them in their place. For such a little kitty, she’s kinda mighty. She would not do well with a dog that gets mad when swatted, because she WILL swat at them when they get too close. Then again, she’ll also curl up with them on the bed for a nap.

Her vetwork is up to date, and she is spayed. She’s very healthy, active, eats great, and is perfect in the litterbox department.

Wanda has been sponsored, so her adoption fee is minimal.

If you would like more information about Wanda, please email

Go! Adopt her! Now!

Just one thing: keep her inside so she doesn’t kill any other animals (not just birds, but also lizards, snakes, chipmunks…the list goes on!), and for her own safety as well. Deal?
