Penelope is just one of many “pocket pets” currently available for adoption through the T. Russell Reitz Regional Animal Shelter in Manhattan, Kansas. She’s a sweet, friendly little guinea pig girl who gets on well with dogs and cats. Based on the Petfinder listings, I’m guessing that Dexter and Dudley are her sons – seeing as they were born at the shelter, and Penelope is the only adult female guinea pig in residence – but you’ll have to confirm that with the shelter.

Cami the kitty.

Cami is a courtesy listing from the FMA Animal Hospital in Westwood, Kansas. Her adopted mom rescued her as a newborn kitten and now, eleven years later, has to rehome her due to unforeseen life circumstances. Cami was a patient at the animal hospital, hence their involvement. Cami is a beautiful girl who reported gets on well with everyone she meets. Can you give this sweet older lady a safe, secure home to retire to?

Cami
Domestic Short Hair Mix: An adoptable cat in Westwood, KS
Small • Adult • Female

Cami is a sweetheart of a girl who was found originally at 4 days of age and bottle fed by her current mom. Sadly, due to unforseen circumstances, her mom has been forced to move in with relatives who will not allow Cami to stay. Camis mom is a long time client of ours so we have agreed not only to board Cami at our animal hospital, but also assist in finding her a forever home. She is 11 years old, spayed, front declawed, current on vaccines and free of internal and external parasites. She is a very affectionate cat and would do well with a family who is looking for a lap cat. She has been raised around other cats, dogs and children. Please give Andrea a call at FMA Animal Hospital if you would like more info or to meet Cami. 913-262-1600

Cricket the rabbit!

Happy Friday the 13th, y’all! I was going to feature a black cat in honor of the occasion, until I realized that last week’s friend (CAMPBELL!) was a blackish/brownish/dark kitty. So let’s make it a black bunny instead. Why not!

Cricket is a lionhead rabbit who was found as a stray and is currently living at the Riley County Humane Society in Manhattan, Kansas. I know, the “Little Apple” is a bit of a drive for the Kansas Citians in the house, but what’s fours hours when we’re talking true love? Besides, Cricket needs you!

Cricket
Lionhead: An adoptable rabbit in Manhattan, KS
Medium • Adult • Female

Cricket is a beautiful coal black female Lionhead. She was found in a parking lot and a kind-hearted Good Samaritan saved her. She is a calm bunny who enjoys being with people and will even tolerate being picked up. RCHS rabbits live in loving foster homes where they are litterbox trained, spayed/neutered, socialized, given sufficient exercise outside of their cage, and fed a diet of grass hay and Timothy pellets to maintain a healthy weight. If you are interested in adopting this rabbit, please contact our Exotics Foster Coordinator, Amy, at amy@rchsks.org

Available for adoption this week is Minnie. THE MOUSE. Minnie the mouse! Imma pause for a second so that you can fully absorb and appreciate the cuteness, mkay?

Those tiny little hand-feet! Long tickle-y whiskers! Big pink ears! Silly teefies, perfect for nibbling veggies! Seriously, is there anything about mice that isn’t heart-stoppingly adorable? Even their little droppings are charming and dainty! (Charming as long as they aren’t in my kitchen cabinets, anyhow. Nah, they’re still charming! They mean that mice are near, and I love mice!)

Okay, I’m starting to make myself sick. Let’s move on, shall we? Miss Minnie is currently staying at the T. Russell Reitz Regional Animal Shelter in Manhattan, Kansas. I know that’s a bit of a haul for you Kansas Citians, but it’s so worth it! And maybe you have family in the area you should go visit anyway? Whatever, do it! You can’t put a price on love!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Hank

Hank, an adorable white and tan babykid of a goat, pokes his tiny little noggin through the square in a cow fence. Is this photo worthy of a calendar, or what? Hello, Mr. March!

On a whim I decided to search Petfinder for “barnyard” animals this morning, just to see whether any new, semi-local listings popped up. And, wouldn’t you know it – I found not, one, not two, not three, but four newborn goats located in Niotaze, Kansas! (That’s about three hours southwest of KCMO, for those too lazy or apathetic to Mapquest it. Hey, I’m not judging or anything.) Quadruplets for the win!

Alas, Hank is the only kiddo whose Petfinder profile comes equipped with a listing, so that makes him :::drumroll please::: our Friend of the week!

Hank
Goat: An adoptable goat in Niotaze, KS
Medium • Baby • Male

This is Hank! He was the first born out of four on Jan. 16th 2011. Four was too much for his mom to care for so he is a bottle baby. He is very friendly and would make a great pet. He is good with dogs, cats and kids. He is located in Niotaze, Kansas 67355 but we can help get him transported anywhere in the US. He will be ready for adoption when he is weaned, but we would like to have an adopter waiting for him. He can be neutered here or his new home will have to sign a contract to have it done. He will need to be adopted with another goat or go to a home that already has one. He has never been alone. His adoption fee is $75 to cover part of the cost of his care. If interested please email and I will send you an adoption application.

Hank’s three siblings – Dumbo, Lil girl, and Bubba – are all available for adoption through North Star Rescue, too. If you don’t already have a goat friend, perhaps you can adopt two siblings together? Goats are totes the shiz, you know!
