Find-a-Friend Friday: Marla

Marla the yellow Blue Heeler.

Whenever I hear the name “Marla,” I think of Marla the virgin on Seinfeld. Also: Marla Rose, long-time activist, talented writer, vegan feminist agitator, and just all-around kickass human being. So when I saw Marla’s adorable face – complete with seemingly stenciled-on eyebrows, also a la Seinfeld – on Petfinder, I knew instantly that she’d be this week’s Friday Friend. Marlas rock, okay? So let’s get this girl adopted!

Marla is currently a ward of the Kansas City Kansas Animal Control; to meet her, you’ll need to go to one of the city’s satellite adoption events. Keep reading for the deets – and please share, even if you’re not in the position to adopt right now.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Bob

Bob’s a big, beautiful ginger boy who’s friendly to all the earth’s creatures. (The Doctor would approve!) At just two and a half years old, Bob’s still a young guy with plenty of love and life ahead of him. Whether you’re looking to adopt your very first four-legged friend, or add another furry critter to your pack, Bob’s the guy for you.

He’s currently staying with Furry Kids Refuge, a no-kill shelter in Kansas City, MO which is desperately in need of foster homes and dry food. Keep reading for details!

Domestic Short Hair-Orange: An adoptable cat in Kansas City, MO
Large • Adult • Male

Approx. DOB : 6/2010
Approx. Weight : 15 pds.
Adoption Fee: $65

Bob is a beautiful, BIG, orange short hair cat. This kitty is a absolute perfect boy……he loves other cats, loves dogs, loves people ! Sometimes we worry about his safety because he is not scared of any other animal and thinks they all love him as he loves them . He will go up to all dogs and wrap himself around their legs and purr the whole time. Bob is such a special kitty. Bob was originally named ‘Bob The Barn Cat’ because someone had dumped him in the country and he made his way to one of our members barn. Everyday he would talk to them as they came out to the barn and would follow them along the road back to their door ….but never got close enough for them to touch. Finally, after a couple of months of the husband feeding him can food and talking to him nightly, Bob came inside the house. He never left after that and settled in like he had always been a inside kitty. So now he is just ‘BOB’. Bob is litter box trained, he has been FIV/Feline Leukemia tested negative, vaccinated, micro chipped and you can fill out a application for Bob at, click on ‘Adopt A Cat’. A dedicated volunteer will be in touch. Thank you for your interest in Bob.

Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids’ Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love…….win-win for all!! Just visit and click on the ‘Foster a Furry Kid’ link. Thanks for your support!

We are in desperate need of Dry Cat food! If you can help, items can be dropped off at our weekly adoption event at the Lee’s Summit Petco every Saturday from Noon-4pm. Or call 816-277-8284 to arrange for pick-up of large donations. THANK YOU!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Callie

November 9th, 2012 11:09 am by Kelly

My, what big whiskers you have.
Photos courtesy of Raytown Gregory Animal Health Center.

Last week we featured a black greyhound with a white chest; this week, it’s a black cat with a white chest! Total coincidence, I swear. Callie’s the only animal currently staying at the Raytown Gregory Animal Health Center, which is why she caught my eye. I like to hit up all the local rescue groups, you see. Also she’s an older girl, which can make it more difficult to rehome her. To add insult to injury, she didn’t even have any likes on Facebook. Boo hiss boo, right? Let’s see if we can change that – or, better still, get this lovely lady adopted!

Domestic Short Hair-Black And White: An adoptable cat in Raytown, MO
Small • Senior • Female

Hello everyone, my name is Callie. I am 11 years old and am looking for my forever home. I am current on vaccines, feline leukemia and FIV negative, dewormed, spayed and declawed in the front. I get along with calm dogs and cats.

I am very talkative, I love affection but I also enjoy my ‘me’ time. I am a very chill kind of cat and slightly timid with new people, but once I get to know you, I become very attached! I am just looking for someone who I can enjoy my days with.

If you would like to meet me, please call Diana at 816-716-2291.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Goose

November 2nd, 2012 10:55 am by Kelly

Goose is really a dog. A greyhound, to be precise!
Photo courtesy of REGAP (Retired Greyhounds As Pets).

Goose, what a handsome guy! He’s not a bird, as his name might suggest (actually he’s christened after Goose of Top Gun fame), but a greyhound. And a devastatingly handsome one, at that: his gorgeous, shiny fur is mostly black, save for his chest, which is white in color; and his eyes are the most beautiful, expressive brown you’ve ever seen. Don’t stare too long at his Petfinder pic, lest you lose yourself in those pools of hazel.

Not that Goose’s looks are only skin deep – nope, this guy’s got personality, too, as described my his foster peeps.

Movie Quote:

Carole: Hey, Goose, you big stud!
Goose: That’s me, honey.
Carole: Take me to bed or lose me forever. G
oose: Show me the way home, honey.

Our honey Goose is looking for a soft bed to land in. Is it in your home? Goose has all kinds of ‘skills’ to charm the household. Goose is very deserving of his name… –loves to take all of his toys out of the toy box and move them around the house–apparently doesn’t agree with where his foster family keeps the toys since he moves them as soon as they put back, –occasionally moves other items too–shoes, hats, rocks… ROCKS? Oh Goose! And who doesn’s need eye candy to decorate the home? Goose agrees…he enjoys looking at the handsome greyhound that stares at him from the fireplace, oven door, and sliding glass door… Our studly boy doesnt have just one love Carol- –loves attention from any and all humans! Goose is in foster and is busy training on house rules. Come check out our darling Top Gun Boys!

More about Goose
Spayed/Neutered • Up-to-date with routine shots • Primary colors: Black, White or Cream • Coat length: Short

Goose is currently staying with REGAP, a group which rescues greyhounds used and discarded by the dog racing industry. If anyone deserves a second chance, these guys and gals do. Well, they all do, but you get my point.

Need a little more convincing? A friend on Facebook shared this image as I went looking for a dog to feature this week. It pretty much says all there is to say on the subject.

The end.
