Domestic Short Hair-Black And White Mix: An adoptable cat in Leawood, KS
Large • Adult • Male

I have been here since October 2011. I am a nice big guy, that likes to lay around and watch the birds. I do not want to go outside, just stay in and play with you. My fee is only 50.00 and I am neutered, vaccinated, and checked for Leukemia. I use my litter box faithfully and eat well on my special dry food. I am not going to be able to stay here for much longer so find me a lap, older person, college kid needing company. I am not going to be picky I am just getting desparate for a new home. Call 913 381 3272 My fee is only 50.00.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Lucy

March 16th, 2012 1:14 pm by Kelly

Lucy the guinea pig! This might be a Find-a-Friend Friday first. I know we’ve featured our fair share of mice and rats – mostly because I find them so darned irresistible – but guinea pigs? I’ll have to check on that. So-called “pocket pets” aren’t nearly as common a sight in shelters as are dogs and cats – but if you’re interested in adopting a smaller furry friend, it is possible.

Anyway, this is a courtesy listing via LJ’s Briar Patch in Shawnee Mission, KS. If you’re interested in adopting Lucy, please contact her family directly!

Guinea Pig: An adoptable guinea pig in Shawnee Mission, KS
Small • Adult • Female

Lucy is a very loving and sweet guinea pig. She loves to cuddle and snuggle. She is very personable and will greet you every morning with a cheery squeak. She loves to communicate. Unlike some pocket pets, she sleeps through the night? She was born February 6th, 2009 so she is 3 years old. We have had her 2 years but unfortunately my daughter has been diagnosed with allergy related asthma and we cannot keep her. We are looking for a loving forever home for our beautiful guinea girl. She has two cages, a fenced pen for indoor play time, a carrying case so she can go with you (she likes going on trips!) and all the supplies we have for her i.e. food, bedding, snacks etc. Please call if interested in this wonderful little girl.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Uno

Uno, the senior pom and recent puppy mill rescue.

YOU GUYS! Someone needs to adopt Uno here before I start crying! Or do something rash like bring him home myself. (Note to Shane: that was a joke!)

Uno is a special older guy who was rescued from a puppy mill, where he lost his lower jaw – most likely due to inadequate (read: nonexistent) veterinary care. Though he’s considered a senior dog, he’s still got a lot life ahead of him – and he needs a super-awesome human who can help make up for lost time. He deserves all your tender loving care and more. Show him that not all humans are big, greedy meanies, mkay?

Pomeranian: An adoptable dog in Kansas City, MO
Small • Senior • Male

Uno is a tiny Senior Pomeranian, about 12 years old, who was rescued from a puppy mill. Uno is a very content little fellow, despite missing his mandible (low jaw); most likely caused by a lack of proper dental care in the puppy mill. His picture does not do him justice. He is adorable.

Although Uno is missing his lower jaw, he loves to eat and demands to have dry kibble mixed with his softer food. In fact, he refuses to eat food that does not have some solid chucks in it.

Uno would love a home where he can hang out next to or in the lap of his owner. His retirement years would be heaven with someone to spoil the memories of his past life completely away!

If you’re interested in Uno, please contact us!

Uno’s adoption fee is $200

Please consider making a donation, to help Husker’s Hope build the funds needed to help save lives!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Pretty

Pretty kitty!

Pretty kitty needs a home! This lovely “torbie” (is that even a word!?) lady is currently staying with Forever Friends Animal League, who has this to say about her:

Domestic Short Hair/Torbie Mix: An adoptable cat in Kansas City, KS
Medium • Adult • Female

Please contact Robin 816-444-3501 ( for more information about this pet.

Pretty is a beautiful girl with coat that’s part tortoise shell and part tabby — hence she’s what is known as a torbie. The beautiful shades of brown, rust and black fur are outlined in light silver when you look at it closely. Put that together with her small face, huge eyes, and lean torso and you’ve got one beauty queen of a feline.

Pretty is very sensitive and shy at first. She is O.K. with a few other cats. She is very loving and loves just hanging out with you. She’s also very good at petting you with her claws retracted. The best I’ve ever seen … or felt. It’s almost like she’s front-declawed.

Do you need a beautiful, gentle companion? To meet Pretty, who was rescued by a a group in southern Missouri and then transported to her current foster home in Kansas City, call her foster mom at 816-444-3501 or contact her at

Pretty is up to date on shots, is spayed and has been tested. Her adoption fee is just $75.

Thanks for caring.

We are a foster home based shelter. Please contact the foster home or contact person for each individual animal. We will arrange to meet in a place that is convenient for the foster home and the prospective adoptor. If the animal and the family seem a good fit then we do same day adoptions. We accept cash or check.

MISSOURI FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! A foster home houses a dog or cat and provides love and training until it is adopted into it’s new Forever Home. We provide the food and vet care. You allow people to meet the animal and bring it to adoption events. Contact Debbie at 913-707-5111

Find-a-Friend Friday: Dave

Dave the green and black conure!
Photos courtesy of Burge Bird Rescue.

If you’re looking to adopt a bird in the Kansas City area, you’re in luck! There are two bird rescues, Beak n’ Wings, Inc. and Burge Bird Rescue, which together foster dozens of lovely birds: parakeets, macaws, conures, budgies, and more.

Dave is a conure from Burge Bird Rescue. A lovely dark green color, Dave is one handsome dude. Poor guy can’t fly due to an old injury to one wing. I bet he enjoys hopping around the house though!

Conure: An adoptable parrot in Grandview, MO
Medium • Adult • Unknown

Dave the Nanday Conure will save you money because he/she never needs his wings trimmed. He can’t fly because he had an old broken wing that didn’t heal properly. He is in perfect feather condition, but sometimes his attitude isn’t so perfect. Like many mature birds, he can get territorial and cage aggressive, so you will have to understand how to work with a bird with a strong personality. Our birds are not available for breeding. Potential adopters must call for an appointment, and must pass a screening interview to ensure that our birds are going to a safe home. Adoption fee $75

Primary colors: Green, Black

If you’d like to welcome a bird or two into your home, please adopt – don’t shop. Feathered friends need our love and compassion, too!
