Find-a-Friend Friday: Jake

April 26th, 2013 11:25 am by Kelly

Jake’s a beautiful senior Brittany Spaniel guy with orange on his ear, around his eyes, and spotted on his body. Though he’s nine years young, he’s still filled with energy – he enjoys playing with other dogs, hiking with his humans, and scaring little critters half to death. Though he’s currently being fostered in Kansas, Jake can be transported up to 1500 miles – that covers quite a bit of the US!

To see a list of other dogs currently available for adoption through National Brittany Rescue & Adoption Network – a nationwide rescue group, they’ve got foster homes around the country – check out their listings on Petfinder. (I especially love Cheri and Merci in Colorado!)

Hi, I’m Jake! I used to be an outside dog but have found that, even though I love running and playing outside, I like living inside with people and with my other dog buddies. I really want a new home that has other dog buddies for me to play with! It is so fun to have people around to love on me whenever I feel like it! Now that my heartworms are gone foster mom says it’s time that I find an even more fun place! Some place with a bigger yard, more trees and varmints and maybe even people that like to hike the river or woods trails sometimes. I like other dogs and get along well with the ones here. I like toys too and my favorite is the rope kind. I found a plush toy but foster mom called me a “de-stuffer” and took it away. I like cats too but foster mom says they are not prey (puh!) and I should not be in a pack with cats. I am 9 years old but am a typical brit with high energy and have no intention of retiring to lying on the porch just yet. I am smart and know lots of commands too. I love being with people and really want to please them. I know how to sit, down and take treats nicely. I potty outside and do not climb the fence. Foster mom says that I am a Good Boy! Do you want to be my new people?

If you are interested in adopting Jake, please visit to complete an adoption application. Please contact Nancy Walker at or 508-896-3602. The fee to adopt Jake is $200 to offset his vetting and to allow NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful pets. He is also eligible for our senior-to-senior program. Transportation can be arranged up 1500 miles with the adopter being responsible for the last 100 miles.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Momma Kitty

April 19th, 2013 12:48 pm by Kelly

Not Momma Kitty’s best pic – but luckily there’s a video, too!

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, but Momma Kitty will most likely spend it alone at Raymore Animal Control. After giving birth to her kittens and seeing them all into their new homes, Momma needs a kind human to step up and adopt her, too! She’s still a young lady with lots of life and love to give. Celebrate the holiday by giving this mom her lucky break, whaddya say?

Hi my name is Momma Kitty, all of my little ones got adopted, now I can have some peace and quiet. But the only problem is that I would like that quiet to be a new home (a little noise would be cool too). So if you would like to adopt me, please call as soon as possible.

Alf is a puppy at heart, yo.

Alf is an adorable older gent who looks like he could stand to lose an lb or two. A ward of the City Of Cameron Animal Shelter – which, according to the website, usually places it dogs and cats through Wayside Waifs – Alf is currently enrolled in Missouri’s Puppies for Parole Program, so you can be sure that he’s receiving lots of love and socialization before he finds his way to you. Yup, you. (One look at that gray snout and you are powerless to resist. Powerless, I say!)

Find-a-Friend Friday: Achilles

April 5th, 2013 10:11 am by Kelly

Achilles is a ruggedly handsome guy who comes from a hoarding situation. He’s in relatively good physical condition is well-socialized given his history. Achilles lost most of his left ear, though the HSGKC doesn’t say how. You’ll have to ask them when you go to meet this beautiful boy – you know you wanna!

Bonus points: Achilles is friendly with other kitties, so why not take advantage of HSGKC’s Adopt-a-Buddy program?

Ragdoll: An adoptable cat in Kansas City, KS
Medium • Senior • Male

Date of birth: 2004

3/30/13: Achilles is a pretty Ragdoll kitty. He has beautiful blue eyes and Seal Point markings. He is 9 years old.

Achilles had been living in a hoarding situation with about 30 other cats. The cats were in fairly good condition, but they did not get a lot of socialization. Achilles is actually quite social given his history. He loves to roll around on his back! It may take him a little time to transition into a new home, but he’s doing really well with people here. He gets along with other cats, too.

Achilles has a damaged ear but it’s completely healed. He’s been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for FIV and feline leukemia.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for FIV and feline leukemia. Kittens who are too young to receive all the necessary kitten boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. Take advantage of our ADOPT-A-BUDDY program: Adopt two cats or kittens together at a greatly reduced adoption fee!

> Most of our cats are not confined in cages but instead live in our spacious and sunny cat rooms. It’s a great environment for them, it allows us to get to know them well, and it’s a nice environment for you to come in to visit — and find your perfect match!

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you’d like to adopt one of our pets, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don’t send the pet home with you that same day. Please visit our web site at for more information about our adoption process, our adoption fees and all that’s included, and for a pet adoption application.

Thank you for searching for a shelter pet!
