Find-a-Friend Friday: Goose

November 2nd, 2012 10:55 am by Kelly

Goose is really a dog. A greyhound, to be precise!
Photo courtesy of REGAP (Retired Greyhounds As Pets).

Goose, what a handsome guy! He’s not a bird, as his name might suggest (actually he’s christened after Goose of Top Gun fame), but a greyhound. And a devastatingly handsome one, at that: his gorgeous, shiny fur is mostly black, save for his chest, which is white in color; and his eyes are the most beautiful, expressive brown you’ve ever seen. Don’t stare too long at his Petfinder pic, lest you lose yourself in those pools of hazel.

Not that Goose’s looks are only skin deep – nope, this guy’s got personality, too, as described my his foster peeps.

Movie Quote:

Carole: Hey, Goose, you big stud!
Goose: That’s me, honey.
Carole: Take me to bed or lose me forever. G
oose: Show me the way home, honey.

Our honey Goose is looking for a soft bed to land in. Is it in your home? Goose has all kinds of ‘skills’ to charm the household. Goose is very deserving of his name… –loves to take all of his toys out of the toy box and move them around the house–apparently doesn’t agree with where his foster family keeps the toys since he moves them as soon as they put back, –occasionally moves other items too–shoes, hats, rocks… ROCKS? Oh Goose! And who doesn’s need eye candy to decorate the home? Goose agrees…he enjoys looking at the handsome greyhound that stares at him from the fireplace, oven door, and sliding glass door… Our studly boy doesnt have just one love Carol- –loves attention from any and all humans! Goose is in foster and is busy training on house rules. Come check out our darling Top Gun Boys!

Goose is currently staying with REGAP, a group which rescues greyhounds used and discarded by the dog racing industry. If anyone deserves a second chance, these guys and gals do. Well, they all do, but you get my point.

Need a little more convincing? A friend on Facebook shared this image as I went looking for a dog to feature this week. It pretty much says all there is to say on the subject.

The end.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Scrappy

Animal Best Friends in Independence, Missouri currently has a number of super-cute dogs available for adoption – including a few puppies! Scrappy here is my favorite, ’cause the boy enjoys being read to. My kind of dog! I can just picture it: night after night spent poring over His Dark Materials, snacking on pizza and pretending that we are each other’s daemons. Talk about your dream dates.

Anyway, I already have seven canine friends to take care of, so that’s out of the question. But my loss is your gain! Adopt Scrappy (or one of ABF’s other awesome canines) today – or, if you’re not able to make a long-term commitment, volunteer to foster a dog or cat. Homes, even temporary ones, are always needed!

Scrappy
Terrier/Cattle Dog Mix: An adoptable dog in Independence, MO
Medium • Adult • Male

Scrappy is irresistible when he looks up at you with those sweet eyes of his. He loves to be read to, enjoys playing with his toys and going for walks – just about anything that involves being with his people. He is a quiet guy, who will be loyal and devoted to his forever family. Scrappy likes to have all the attention, so he’d do best as the only pet. We prefer an adult only home or one with older children.

Scrappy’s birthdate is 05-13-05

If you are interested in Scrappy, please go to WWW.ANIMALSBESTFRIENDS.ORG and complete our online application. Scrappy’s adoption fee is $75

If you are interested in FOSTERING any of our wonderful animals, please go to our website, click on the tab “HOW TO HELP” and complete our foster application.

Thank you for your interest in our animals. Animals Best Friends strives to make a compatible match with our families and our companion animals. Due to the volume of e-mails and calls we only contact applications that meet our criteria. If you are selected, we contact in five business days.

If not contacted, please pursue another rescue group or shelter.

Thank you,
ABF Volunteers

Find-a-Friend Friday: Katie

Katie just wants to be your BFF. Is that so wrong?
Photos courtesy of the Daviess County Humane Society.

Did you know that October, in addition to being generally awesome (home to both Halloween and Vegan MoFo!), is both Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month and National Pit Bull Awareness Month? No? Well, now you do!

Katie the Black Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier Mix is happy to kick things off! She’s currently staying at the Daviess County Humane Society in Liberty, Missouri, but would love to come home with you. Couches are way cozier than cages, don’t you think? Katie concurs. Bring this lovely lady home tomorrow and dress her like the adorable Halloween pumpkin she is. Then smother her with treats. Dog treats, that is. (Chocolate is a big no-no, but you probably already knew that!)

Jasmine is happy to meet you!

Pit bull type dogs have the widest, silliest, happiest grins, don’t they? Like Jasmine here – it’s hardly an exaggeration to say that her smile’s a mile wide. And she’s got a lot to smile about – the nice people at Angels Left Behind pulled her from a high-kill facility in Georgia just as her time there had expired. Imagine that smile, nearly snuffed out.

Now she needs a new home to call her own, fresh grass to roll around in, perhaps even a sibling to share her love and shenanigans with. If you think this might be you, go visit her today!

Jasmine
American Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull Terrier Mix: An adoptable dog in Belton, MO
Large • Adult • Female

Jasmine is a beautiful, sweet American Stafford Terrier/Pit Bull. She was rescued from a high kill shelter in Rome, GA the same day she was to be euthanized. Jasmine is new to our rescue so we are still learning about her likes and dislikes. What we do know is that Jasmine LOVES, LOVES people and thinks she’s a lap dog. Jasmine walks well on a leash and seems to have basic manners. It appears that Jasmine has had a sheltered life. Things like garage doors, the automatic doors at Petsmart scare her. Right now, we are still assessing her with other dogs and cats. So far, she doesn’t appear to be aggressive towards dogs, but gets really jealous when other dogs are getting attention. We will be working with her on this issue.

Jasmine is staying at Man’s Best Friend Pet Resort in Belton, MO. We would love for you to stop by and meet this gorgeous girl. Just call first, ask for Judy and schedule an apt. 816-331-4364 Jasmine is up to date on shots and will be spayed before being adopted. No exceptions. A home visit is required. This is to ensure that Jasmine is going to a wonderful home. Please make sure to check with your city for any restrictions on this misunderstood breed. If you would like to meet this sweet girl, please email me at angelsleftbehind@yahoo.com or Judy at bride9200@aol.com

Petey the beagle.

Petey? That’s my dog kid’s name too! Well, his name is spelled a bit differently – Peedee – but it’s all the same to canine ears. And yesterday was his tenth birthday, which is probably why Petey here jumped out at me!

Petey is a friendly, mature beagle boy who’s currently being fostered in Rapid City, South Dakota, but is listed with Basset and Beagle Rescue of the Heartland (BBRH) in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. If you fancy this little guy – and I know that you do; how could you not? – transport might be an adoption. FYI!

Petey
Beagle: An adoptable dog in Shawnee Mission, KS
Medium • Adult • Male

Petey is a seven year old beagle who loves trick-or-treating. If you treat, he will do tricks all day long! He is friendly and outgoing and always has a smile on his face. He gets along with the other dogs in the house and loves to go for walks and spend time outside. Petey is well-mannered and walks nicely on the leash. He is also crate trained and knows how to sit, shake and sit pretty. He is very snuggly and will happily sit in your lap and watch TV. Petey is fairly quiet, but still knows how to be a beagle when the situation calls for it. He is just an all around great dog and will make a nice family addition. He is neutered, microchipped, on heartworm treatment and up to date on all of his shots. Petey is a chunky monkey at 47 pounds. Like many of us, he could stand to lose a few, but a good diet and daily walks should help. He is currently being fostered in Rapid City, SD but transport can be arranged for the right home! His adoption fee is $150.00. New video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFUFCUcjUPg&feature=share

Doing the dinner dance. Guess his foster peeps aren’t lying when they say that Petey loves to eat!
