Find-a-Friend Friday: Sally and Sophie

February 1st, 2013 11:12 am by Kelly

Sally and Sophie, you guys. THESE GIRLS ARE BREAKING MY HEART. Both ladies were rescued from near-death experiences (Sally, a high kill shelter; Sophie, euthanasia due to expensive vet bills) by their dad, whom they lived happily ever after with…that is, until he died of a heart attack some ten years later. It’s bad enough that they lost their human; worst still if they lost each other. Hopefully they can find a kind and loving home together? Don’t let their ages scare you off, senior dogs rock!

Here’s more about each girl. Even if you’re not in the position to adopt, please help spread the word, okay? Or consider fostering? Both Sally and Sophie are currently in a kennel and understandably not very happy about it. These lifelong friends deserve a place to retire to – by one another’s sides.

Whoever adopts them will for serious be entitled to a box of vegan cookies hand made by moi. Dog lady’s honor!

Hello, my name is Sally. I’m a sweet, spunky girl that has known nothing but love and kindness my whole life. I have been spoiled and well taken care for 10 plus years. I have always considered myself one of the lucky ones. My daddy adopted me from a high kill shelter when I was just 16 weeks old. I have been with him ever since. Well a few weeks ago my daddy was taken to the hospital because of his heart. He told me and my sister that he loved us and would be back. We waited for a long time and would have waited forever, but unfortunately his heart stopped beating. I think part of me died that day too. The lady that would come over every week to help care for him stopped by and picked us up. She said that she would make sure we found a new home. I can’t believe that I’m having to worry about finding a home at my age. I should be laying around enjoying my golden years. Do you have room for me? I promise I won’t be any trouble.

If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet senior, please email me at angelsleftbehind@yahoo.com or call me at 816-506-0378. Sally is about 11 years old, but has the spirit of a puppy. Sally is now in a kennel environment and isn’t handling it very well. She has spent her whole life laying beside her daddy and doesn’t belong in a kennel. Unfortunately we don’t have any available foster homes right now.

Foster homes are always needed.

Hello, my name is Sophie. I’m a sweet, gentle soul that has known nothing but love and kindness my whole life. I have been spoiled and well taken care for 10 plus years. I have always considered myself one of the lucky ones. My daddy saved me from being euthanized when I was about a year old. I had been hit by a car and no one wanted to help me so the vet was going to euthanize me. Out of the blue, a wonderful man came in and saved me. I have been with him ever since. Well a few weeks ago, my daddy was taken to the hospital because of his heart. He told me and my sister that he loved us and would be back. We waited for a long time and would have waited forever, but unfortunately his heart stopped beating. I think part me died that day too. Find-a-Friend Friday: Heaven

Heaven, can you help this sweet girl find it?

Heaven isn’t too far away. Turns out, she’s living over in Overland Park!

Heaven is a young tripod who lost one leg due to an untreated injury. If you’ve got a soft spot for “special needs” dogs, Heaven might be your girl! Not that she lets her missing leg slow her down any, nosiree. According to her rescuers at Love 4 Paws, she’s “fully functional” and raring to go. Think you can keep up? Schedule a meet and greet today!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Bo & Scrappy

December 21st, 2012 11:20 am by Kelly

Bo & Scrappy, the cutest boys on the block.
Photos courtesy of Midwest Pug Rescue.

Like so many of the animals on Petfinder, brothers Bo and Scrappy found themselves homeless when their elderly humans were no longer able to care for them. These guys love one another and need to find a new home together, which makes their prospects that much more dismal – most folks are only interested in adopting one dog at a time. If you’re thinking about adopting, please consider a bonded pair. Not only do you save twice the animals, you also spare them the pain of lifelong friendship severed.

No more goodbyes, only hellos. Warm, wet, sloppy hellos!

Pug: An adoptable dog in Overland Park, KS
Small • Adult • Male

Bo and Scrappy are 4 and 7 year old brothers. Their elderly owners had to move into assisted living so the boys need a new home. They are both as precious as can be. Bo is a small apricot and Scrappy is a large light fawn pug. They are getting neutered/shots and dentals so they will be good as new soon. They are pretty attached so we would really like to keep them together.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Marla

Whenever I hear the name “Marla,” I think of Marla the virgin on Seinfeld. Also: Marla Rose, long-time activist, talented writer, vegan feminist agitator, and just all-around kickass human being. So when I saw Marla’s adorable face – complete with seemingly stenciled-on eyebrows, also a la Seinfeld – on Petfinder, I knew instantly that she’d be this week’s Friday Friend. Marlas rock, okay? So let’s get this girl adopted!

Marla is currently a ward of the Kansas City Kansas Animal Control; to meet her, you’ll need to go to one of the city’s satellite adoption events. Keep reading for the deets – and please share, even if you’re not in the position to adopt right now.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Gussie & Petunia

Gussie (top) and Petunia (bottom) – sisters, friends, look-alikes!

Gussie and Petunia (Tuna for short!) are a pair of adorably pudgy pug/terrier sisters who recently found themselves in the care of the Humane Society of Ray County in Richmond, MO. Though the shelter is willing to split the two up, Gussie and Petunia have been together since birth – that’s ten years, people! Hopefully a compassionate, loving human will come forward to offer them a home, together? Gussie and Petunia have already lost their humans; it’d be a tragedy for these sisters to lose one another, too.

I’ll bake you a batch of vegan cookies. Seriously!
