Smooches sends you – you guessed it – lots and lots of kitty kisses!

Smooches is what you’ll get plenty of if you adopt this pretty little girl from Karma’s Rescue! Smooches is a two-year-old cat who gets along with everyone: humans, cats and dogs! And all-around people person, that’s Smooches. Her foster peeps give her rave reviews:

Domestic Short Hair/Tabby Mix: An adoptable cat in Kansas City, MO
Medium • Adult • Female

Smooches is one of the most loving kitties you will ever meet. We call her Smooches because she loves to give kisses. She loves all people and always wants her ears scratched. We don’t think she ever stops purring and she is always so happy. She does great with other cats and dogs don’t seem to bother her a bit. She would be perfect in any household and is very gentle so would do fine with young children.

All cats/kittens will be spay/neutered before going to their new homes, up to date on vaccinations, tested for FIV/Feline Leukemia, dewormed and are on flea preventative. DOB 2009 Adoption fee is $100 which includes all of the above vetting. If you would like to meet one of our babies, please email for an application or call 816-509-6006 for general questions about our adoption process.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Stan the Man! (Also: “Find Your Boo!” Half Price Adoption Event at Wayside Waifs)

October 21st, 2011 11:10 am by Kelly

Stan the Man!
Photos courtesy of Wayside Waifs.

Wayside Waifs – like so many other shelters across the country – is currently filled with dozens of awesome cats and kittens in need of homes (160 at least count!). Newborns like the adorably named Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca (siblings, I’m guessing?), or Daffy and Daisy Duck; distinguished older cats including Lola and Morgan; longer-term residents, like October; and special “special needs” felines, such as Stan the Man here!

Stan’s requirements aren’t all that extraordinary, actually; the little guy is just short one eye and needs you to look past that, mkay? Don’t think of him as different – at least not in a negative way; think of him as unique! The most adorable pirate you’ve ever seen!

Animal ID : 14071044
Breed : Domestic Medium Hair / Mix
Age : 8 years 1 month
Gender : Male
Color : White
Spayed/Neutered : Yes
Declawed : No

Stan the Man here! Just like Stan Musial I’m an all star, widely considered to be one of the all time greatest snugglers of all time. I’ve compiled 3,630 purrs (the most in a career spent with only one team) 475 home runs for watching sporting events with my family, and was named the Most Valuable Pussycat by all my roommates, I’d still be living there but the landlord in our new place allows only two pets and the dogs got to stay. I lived with only one family my whole life and I’m sad I had to go, but I just know I’ll find another family just as terrific. If you’re looking for a Hall of Fame Feline Friend, I’m your man!

You may have noticed I have only one eye. Kind of makes me look kind of rakish, like a pirate, I’m thinking Johnny Depp. Boy, is he hot! I hear the ladies really go for him. They go for me too! I have lots of fans here in the staff and volunteers at Wayside. I’m a people person and love to hang out with you, but do okay with small dogs. I lived with two small dogs for many years but I’m not good with big dogs as I’d been attacked by them in my past. Please don’t take me if you have a big dog. I’m very afraid. I shouldn’t go outside. I can’t defend myself well because I can’t see what’s coming on one side.

Inside I do great! I love to climb and my favorite place to perch is high up on the furniture. I respond well to my name, so please don’t change it when we go home. I’ve lost my people, my home and my dog brothers, so my name is all I have left that’s familiar and comfortable. I need something to hold on to, please. I’ve lived with a family the last 8 years so I’m having a little trouble adjusting to shelter life. I’m a bit shy and not as outgoing and friendly as I’d be with people I know and love. When we go home, I might go hide under a bed or in a closet until I feel comfortable joining the family. I’m affectionate and want to be buddies, but I’ll need a bit of time to adjust.

My family says I enjoy running water so if I can please have a kitty fountain or stick my head under the sink when you’re brushing your teeth or doing dishes sometimes, I’d like that. I have great hygiene habits and never have a litter box issue if you keep it clean for me. I eat dry food but shouldn’t have only dry food as it’s hard on my tummy. I need some wet food too. Thank you so much for honoring my requests. And don’t forget in these tough economic times, I’m a bargain, just $25 for a lifetime of friendship and affection. Such a deal I have for you!

I’m looking forward to joining your team and being your MVP. I’ll be at batting practice faithfully learning to swat my toy mice way, way out there… going going gone! Holy cow! See you around the ball park.

Lucky for them – and you! – Wayside is holding a half-price adoption event this weekend! Adopt a boo (or two! – *cough* littermates *cough*) for half the regular price – or just stop by for the craft show, silent auction and raffle!

Find Your Boo Adoption Hours:
Friday, Oct. 21: 2pm – 8pm
Saturday, Oct. 22: 10am – 6pm
Sunday, Oct 23: Noon – 6pm

See you there!*

* Not literally! We have about as many boos as we can handle, I’m afraid!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Willy

(Two-eyed) Willy!
Photos courtesy of Blue Skye Adoptions, LLC.

OMFG Willy, what a cutie! When I first saw his photo in thumbnail form, I thought for sure it was one of those admonishing PSA listings featuring a porcelain cat or stuffed animal or something. (Which I adore, don’t get me wrong; I say “admonishing” in the nicest way possible, cause sometimes a little scolding is necessary!) But no! Willy is a cat, a real, flesh and fur cat! With the finest silver fur and most gorgeous green eyes you’ll ever see. All kinds of adorable!

Please contact Vicky ( for more information about this pet.

You can download an appliction to get pre-approved by going to our website at Click on the ‘contact us’ link. Kitty City Kansas Rescue is an all volunteer non profit organization.
We update our website daily.

Willy is an exceptionally sweet little boy. He loves to be held and gives lots of kisses; he is a serious lap cat!! His estimated birthday is August 1st. He has a little bit of a ‘tic’ which is neurological, but you can barely notice it and he certainly doesn’t seem to. He is neutered and ready for his purrmanent home. His adoption fee is $85.00 with an approved application. He does great with dogs and other cats.

You can visit our adoptable cats and kittens on Saturdays from noon-five at our adoption Center located at Mariposa Veterinary Center. Mariposa Vet Clinic is located at 13900 Santa Fe Trail Drive in Lenexa. Not every animal attends every adoption so always call or e-mail ahead to confirm that a particular animal will be present. All of our cats and kittens stay in licensed foster homes during the week (except for Saturday). For more information e-mail or call 913-422-1911.

Since this attractive little youngster breaks with my tradition of mostly featuring older and “special needs” animals in this here space, I’ll also point you to Blue Skye Adoptions’s other residents – 53 in total – many of whom are older felines. Kittens may be tempting, what with their new life smell and all, but older cats have got it goin’ on, too! Sure, Willy here is the dictionary definition of cuteness – but I doubt he has the more refined manners of, say, a Princess or a Millie. Just think about it, mkay?

And whatever age, breed or species you choose: THANK YOU FOR ADOPTING!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Pete

Pete is a Domestic Long Hair/Tabby Mix with fluffy, gray fur.

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve featured any cats in this here space, so let’s remedy that straight away, mkay? The Protective Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is currently home to dozens of lovely cats, young and old, including several groups of kittens. (Kittens! Kittens! Kittens!) Like many of PAWS’s animals, little Pete here came to the shelter as a stray, where he was nursed back to health and is now ready to find his forever home. Maybe that’s with you?

Find-a-Friend Friday BONUS ROUND!: Slippers

August 19th, 2011 12:36 pm by Kelly

Slippers the tortie kitty!

Because I’ve been so terrible about blogging (etc., etc., etc.) lately, I’ve decided to do an extra-special BONUS EDITION of Find-a-Friend Friday today. Yay! Let’s take a road trip to Chicago, where Broad Shoulders Animals Rescue is overflowing with cats, dogs and (my favorite! probably because I can’t adopt any!) mice! But mostly cats! Babies, adults, and seniors; brown cats, gray cats, orange cats; cats of all shapes, sizes and temperaments! Cats like Slippers here, who – with an intake date prior to 2011 – currently holds BSAR’s title of “longest temporary resident.” Let’s see if we can change that, hmmm?

Spayed/Neutered • Up-to-date with routine shots • House trained • Primary color: Tortoiseshell

5/25/2011- We presumed this gorgeous 2-3 year old lady to be pregnant when we took her in which left her in a huff, quite defensive about her looks and weight. After assuring her we were worried about her health (and that she the most beautiful cat we’d ever seen) we managed to get her some medical care. The poor girl had a very bad case of intestinal worms, ear mites, ringworm and an unknown stomach issue that was causing stomach inflammation! Her lovely foster home helped her get healthy and now Slippers is ready for her adoring audience!

Slippers loves pets, cuddling, sleeping and playing with other cats. She also enjoys deep conversations about the state of affairs, along with the latest fashion trends (although she’s really more of a classical, Audrey Hepburn-dressing type). Always one for surprises, Slippers also like hard/classical rock and won’t hesitate to bring out her battered ol’ AC/DC and Led Zeppelin shirts! Underneath it all, she’d really just like a forever lap to lay her head.

All of our kitties are micro-chipped (which will be registered at no extra cost at the time of adoption), up to date on their shots, spayed or neutered, have had preventative care (including parasite treatment) and treatment for any illness they may have had while in our care- plus, one month of free pet insurance!

Please email broadshouldersrescue [at] or call (312) 612-0770 to receive an application & set up an appointment to meet our friendly cats!

Even if you’re not in a position to adopt Slippers, please spread the word! If you live in Chicago and would like to help BSAR out, they could use some assistance with photography, video editing, making and hanging fliers, dog- and cat-sitting, and (of course) foster and adoptive homes! Hop on over to their Facebook page for more!

Please and thank you. 🙂
