Find-a-Friend Friday: Elleka, Mitten, and Bashful

February 22nd, 2013 11:21 am by Kelly

Top to bottom, mom and her baby bunnies: Elleka, Mitten, and Bashul.

This is such a sad story, y’all. When their owners no longer wanted them, they released Elleka and her companion into the wild to fend for themselves. Elleka’s friend was attacked and killed by a dog before Elleka was found and rescued by the Missouri House Rabbit Society. And, surprise surprise, it just so happens that she was pregnant!

Though these babies will never know their father, at least they’ll be adopted into safe, loving homes. This is where you come in, dear readers! Three of the five babies have been adopted, but mom and her remaining two children are still available – and the MHRS wants to keep them together. If you think you have what it takes to care for three fluffy little bundles of joy, what are you waiting for? Arrange a meeting today! (Seriously, free up some more spots in the foster homes!)

PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING THREE WONDERFUL RABBITS A FOREVER HOME. They are litter trained and friendly. Here is their story: Elleka (gray and white Dutch) and her companion were released by their owners to fend for themselves. The other bunny was killed by a neighborhood dog then a good samaritan contacted the House Rabbit Society and we took the surviving bunny. Two weeks later she had 5 babies. They are all adorable and sweet and in some way the bunny who lost his life will be remembered through these baby bunnies he fathered. Two of the babies are staying with mama. Elleka, Mitten (boy with white foot), and Bashful (girl all black) will be adopted as a trio.

My name, it suits me.

Valentine’s Day may be a year away, but it’s never too early to find that someone special to celebrate it with. And what better sweetheart than a smiley little dog who wants you for her one and only human? Joy is a young lady who enjoys car rides and walks on the beach (or anywhere, really). She’ll tolerate cats but will save all her love for you. If this sounds like a love connection, get in touch with Autumn Acres today.

Joy
Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler)/Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix: An adoptable dog in Kansas City, KS
Medium • Adult • Female

Energetic little girl that loves to play

My name is Joy. I am an active girl who can get along with dogs but I can be a pushy gal for the center of attention, so my best scenario home would be without another dog – just kids or a person that is willing to give me attention and give me exercise. I am ok with cats. I am loyal to my owner and I would make a great watch dog. I love bye-bye rides and I want to go with you everywhere, so you have to be careful of me trying to go out the door with you. J I walk well on a leash after I settle down from the excitement of my walk. I am potty trained. I am a smart girl and will listen to commands but I do jump when I first see you and I sometimes forget that I am not to “herd” your feet, but I will not hurt you….I just want to play. My foster mommy is working on that but she thinks I am a neat doggie. Please email Jenifer and ask about visiting with me…I need a home with someone that will keep in line with my energy, but you will be impressed how sweet I can be!!

Please contact Kimberly 913-522-7133 (ylrebmik7@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.

Adoptions by appointment this week Monday thru Friday. Open Adoptions weekends Saturday and Sunday 12 to 5. Our Adoption Center is at 7801 N. Oak Trafficway KCMO. Come on out and meet your new Forever Friend!!

Yum Yum was abandoned in an apartment complex when her ‘owners’ moved out. She would make the perfect housecat for a family. She has been in foster care for over a year and is ready to be a family cat for a lucky family. She has a quiet ,confident yet gentle personality. She is skittish at first, but once she gets to know you, she is just fine. Her favorite treat is tuna – the only thing that makes her ‘meow’. Her foster mom says that she is the most patient she has ever had when her nails are trimmed. She enjoys a quiet catnap in the afternoon and greets her foster mom when she comes home. She is about 3 years old and her adoption fee is 75 dollars. She is spayed, felv/fiv tested, vaccinated. She would be good with other cats, dogs and children. Please consider adding Yum Yum to your family!

For more information or to arrange a visit, contact her foster mom at ylrebmik7@gmail.com. Her foster home is in Olathe, KS.

Updated 12/31/12

If the animal and the family seem a good fit then we do same day adoptions. We accept cash or check.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Sally and Sophie

February 1st, 2013 11:12 am by Kelly

Sally (top) and Sophie.
Photos courtesy of Angels Left Behind.

Sally and Sophie, you guys. THESE GIRLS ARE BREAKING MY HEART. Both ladies were rescued from near-death experiences (Sally, a high kill shelter; Sophie, euthanasia due to expensive vet bills) by their dad, whom they lived happily ever after with…that is, until he died of a heart attack some ten years later. It’s bad enough that they lost their human; worst still if they lost each other. Hopefully they can find a kind and loving home together? Don’t let their ages scare you off, senior dogs rock!

Here’s more about each girl. Even if you’re not in the position to adopt, please help spread the word, okay? Or consider fostering? Both Sally and Sophie are currently in a kennel and understandably not very happy about it. These lifelong friends deserve a place to retire to – by one another’s sides.

Whoever adopts them will for serious be entitled to a box of vegan cookies hand made by moi. Dog lady’s honor!

German Shepherd Dog Mix: An adoptable dog in Belton, MO
Large • Senior • Female

Hello, my name is Sally. I’m a sweet, spunky girl that has known nothing but love and kindness my whole life. I have been spoiled and well taken care for 10 plus years. I have always considered myself one of the lucky ones. My daddy adopted me from a high kill shelter when I was just 16 weeks old. I have been with him ever since. Well a few weeks ago my daddy was taken to the hospital because of his heart. He told me and my sister that he loved us and would be back. We waited for a long time and would have waited forever, but unfortunately his heart stopped beating. I think part of me died that day too. The lady that would come over every week to help care for him stopped by and picked us up. She said that she would make sure we found a new home. I can’t believe that I’m having to worry about finding a home at my age. I should be laying around enjoying my golden years. Do you have room for me? I promise I won’t be any trouble.

If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet senior, please email me at angelsleftbehind@yahoo.com or call me at 816-506-0378. Sally is about 11 years old, but has the spirit of a puppy. Sally is now in a kennel environment and isn’t handling it very well. She has spent her whole life laying beside her daddy and doesn’t belong in a kennel. Unfortunately we don’t have any available foster homes right now.

Foster homes are always needed.

Hello, my name is Sophie. I’m a sweet, gentle soul that has known nothing but love and kindness my whole life. I have been spoiled and well taken care for 10 plus years. I have always considered myself one of the lucky ones. My daddy saved me from being euthanized when I was about a year old. I had been hit by a car and no one wanted to help me so the vet was going to euthanize me. Out of the blue, a wonderful man came in and saved me. I have been with him ever since. Well a few weeks ago, my daddy was taken to the hospital because of his heart. He told me and my sister that he loved us and would be back. We waited for a long time and would have waited forever, but unfortunately his heart stopped beating. I think part me died that day too. Find-a-Friend Friday: Artemis

January 25th, 2013 11:53 am by Kelly

Artemis, goddess of the hunt!
Photos courtesy of Clinton Critter Care.

Today’s adoptable is of the “scaled and finned” variety. Super-exciting, considering that it can be a bit more difficult to find animals other than cats and dogs available for adoption in the Kansas City area! As it just so happens, Clinton Critter Care specializes in less traditional companion animals. In addition to Artemis, they also have a lizard named Cleopatra in need of a new home. So go give ’em a look and spread the word, mkay?

Artemis
Bearded Dragon: An adoptable reptile in Clinton, MO
Medium • Senior • Female

We are looking for an experienced and educated bearded dragon owner to adopt Artemis (lovingly nicknamed “Artie”), an approximately 8 year old female bearded dragon. We believe she might be a citrus or be a citrus hypo. She was surrendered to us by a family in Columbia MO who could no longer care for her or give her the attention she needs.

Artemis requires an adequate enclosure of a 40 gallon breeder tank at LEAST, or ideally an enclosure with 55 gallons or more, with strong UVB lighting (regular light bulbs do not contain UVB light), a basking spot with undertank heater, and a cool side to the enclosure. She has to have fresh water daily treated with Repti-Safe or equivalent to remove chlorine and other heavy metals from the water, as well as lots of fresh greens and other fruits and veggies that HAVE to be replaced DAILY. She also has to have a regular weekly source of insects such as dubia cockroaches (preferred) or crickets, dusted with reptile vitamins. She also enjoys and will eat Fluker’s Bearded Dragon Diet (red pellets). Also required are climbing limbs in her enclosure.

She also needs regular “out of cage” exercise time, and we highly recommend a good bearded dragon leash for ease of mobility while keeping it safe, and weekly baths in warm repti-safe treated water.

Artie is missing the end of her tail, due to being housed together with a male bearded dragon before coming to us. We recommend that Bearded Dragons ALWAYS be housed by themselves as they are naturally solitary reptiles.

If you would like to adopt Artemis the bearded dragon, please fill out the adoption application located on our website here: clintoncrittercare.com/?page_id=259

Artemis’ adoption fee is $75 and she is located in Clinton,Missouri. If you cannot provide a loving forever home for Artemis, please help us to care for her and other bearded dragons we rescue by donating an item to them off of our Amazon.com wishlist for our reptiles, including bearded dragons! They are in need of heat lamps, bearded dragon food, repti-safe or equivalent for their water, or anything else on our reptile wishlist. It will be sent directly to us, and will be put directly towards the care of this or other reptiles in the future we may rescue! Thank you!
