Find-a-Friend Friday: Larry, Moe & Curly

Allow me to introduce you to Larry!
Or is this Moe? Hmmm, he could be Curly, too.
HSMO used the same photo for all three Bantam roosters and didn’t specify.
No matter! I’m sure they’re all equally handsome guys!

Seeing as it’s the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I really wanted to make a turkey our Friday friend in need. Alas, there are none to be found at the Humane Society of Missouri’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch, the closest major farmed animal sanctuary to Kansas City. Ah well. They do have chickens, though! Close, if not totally seasonal. That’s okay though, since chickens rock just as hard as turkeys.

Larry, Moe and Curly are a trio of Bantam roosters who arrived at the rescue ranch together as strays. All three are about a year and a half old, and have been at the shelter since May 2011. The three get on well together, but have not yet been introduced to females. Longmeadow doesn’t specify that the three must be adopted together – but really, wouldn’t that be dandy? Let’s make it happen, people!

Here are each of their listings in turn:

LARRY – ID#A509360

I am an unaltered male, black and white Bantam mix.

The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 5 months old.

I have been at the shelter since May 17, 2011.

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal: Larry, Moe and Curly all came into our shelters as strays. They were not claimed and are now up for adoption. They get along with each other for now but we have also not introduced them to hens yet. They are very cute and perch in the same order and facing alternating directions every night.

Adoption fee: $5 each

For more information about this animal, call:

Find-a-Friend Friday: Bailey

Bailey the senior couch potato is seeking a fellow layabout
with which to share a couch. He’ll even let you drive the telly!

Meet Bailey, y’all! Bailey is an adorable older gent who, like so many before him, was displaced from his home when a baby showed up. Totally not his fault, right? Sure, so maybe he didn’t like to share his toys with the new arrival, but I’m hardly one to talk – I don’t like to share my stuff with babies either! Bailey is an easygoing guy who seems like he’d be a good fit for an equally easygoing person or family. (Just look at all those pics of him chillaxing on the couch. Dude just wants a soft warm cushion!)

Will you give this sweet guy the retirement home he so desperately needs and deserves?

Bailey
Beagle/Terrier Mix: An adoptable dog in North Kansas City, MO
Small • Adult • Male

Who wouldn’t fall in love with that little face?! Bailey is a Terrier/Beagle male that was born on the 4th of July, 2001. He was adopted as a puppy by a young woman that was wanting a companion and lookout. He’s done a great job of both, but now that there is a baby in the picture, Bailey is not so happy. He’s feeling a little insecure.

Bailey is very affectionate and loves to be anywhere people are and will follow you from room to room. He loves to go on walks and is house[trained]. He has a fierce bark and will bark at noises around the house or anyone outside the windows he can see. If you’re looking for a wonderful little companion that will give you an alert, Bailey might be the perfect little companion for you!

Bailey has been around other dogs. He will bark at dogs, but typically gets along well with larger dogs. He tolerates cats, and isn’t interested in playing with them or snuggling with them.

Bailey is very smart, and knows: Sit, down or lay down, off or get down, stay, ok (we make him sit before going outside or coming back inside, and before eating, & he will sit until we tell him ‘ok’), give me your belly, give me your paw, and sit up/sit pretty (with help of a treat over his head).

Bailey is really looking for a quiet home with no small children. He doesn’t really like to share, and little kids don’t understand that. He would love to have someone to sit with, someone with a regular routine that he can learn. We all like routine, and he feels more secure knowing when things are going to happen. He needs someone who doesn’t mind letting him have his own way sometimes.

Please email Suzy@CompanionPetRescue.com for more information about Bailey.

Smooches is what you’ll get plenty of if you adopt this pretty little girl from Karma’s Rescue! Smooches is a two-year-old cat who gets along with everyone: humans, cats and dogs! And all-around people person, that’s Smooches. Her foster peeps give her rave reviews:

Smooches
Domestic Short Hair/Tabby Mix: An adoptable cat in Kansas City, MO
Medium • Adult • Female

Smooches is one of the most loving kitties you will ever meet. We call her Smooches because she loves to give kisses. She loves all people and always wants her ears scratched. We don’t think she ever stops purring and she is always so happy. She does great with other cats and dogs don’t seem to bother her a bit. She would be perfect in any household and is very gentle so would do fine with young children.

All cats/kittens will be spay/neutered before going to their new homes, up to date on vaccinations, tested for FIV/Feline Leukemia, dewormed and are on flea preventative. DOB 2009 Adoption fee is $100 which includes all of the above vetting. If you would like to meet one of our babies, please email karmasrescue@hotmail.com for an application or call 816-509-6006 for general questions about our adoption process.

MINNIE THE MOUSE!

Available for adoption this week is Minnie. THE MOUSE. Minnie the mouse! Imma pause for a second so that you can fully absorb and appreciate the cuteness, mkay?

null

Those tiny little hand-feet! Long tickle-y whiskers! Big pink ears! Silly teefies, perfect for nibbling veggies! Seriously, is there anything about mice that isn’t heart-stoppingly adorable? Even their little droppings are charming and dainty! (Charming as long as they aren’t in my kitchen cabinets, anyhow. Nah, they’re still charming! They mean that mice are near, and I love mice!)

Okay, I’m starting to make myself sick. Let’s move on, shall we? Miss Minnie is currently staying at the T. Russell Reitz Regional Animal Shelter in Manhattan, Kansas. I know that’s a bit of a haul for you Kansas Citians, but it’s so worth it! And maybe you have family in the area you should go visit anyway? Whatever, do it! You can’t put a price on love!

Find-a-Friend Friday: Lucky (and Blair the ice cream sundae, too!)

October 28th, 2011 10:02 am by Kelly

Lucky once, hopefully twice!
Photos courtesy of Keesie’s Cats.

Lucky needs your help! This sweet pittie girl’s human can no longer care for her due to health problems – and if someone awesome doesn’t come to Lucky’s rescue asap, she may wind up in the Kansas City Animal Shelter, a high-kill facility where her chances look grim. Please help if you can, and no matter where you live; though Lucky and her man are located in KCMO, transport out of the area is a possibility.

Lucky
American Bulldog Mix: An adoptable dog in Overland Park, KS
Large • Adult • Female

COMPASSION CASE: KCMO Pittie Mix (named LUCKY) and her KCMO Gentleman Need You!

Lucky is a healthy 4 year-old Pittie Mix who needs rehoming ASAP due to her owner’s medical condition. She weighs about 50 lbs. and is Heartworm Negative.

Lucky was rescued from running in traffic a few years ago by her current owner. She was found near a park, was very hungry to the point of being just skin and bones, and had chewed her own tail out of frustration until it was bleeding.

Lucky would LOVE to be the only 4-legged resident in her next home, but is also good with other male dogs and select females. She has also successfully lived with a cat. Lucky is a very sweet girl who will wag her tail all day long when she’s happy, loves rolling up in a blanket and playing hide and seek, and relaxing on the couch if one is available. She is crate trained as well, and appreciates her crate as a safe haven.

Please help Lucky’s people successfully rehome her or place her with a reputable rescue group ASAP. Her kind-hearted owner loves her tremendously: He just absolutely cannot keep her and unfortunately will need to take her to the Kansas City Animal Shelter (high-kill) if we do not step up to help. Transportation out of the Kansas City area can very likely be arranged upon request.

Please contact mlmurphey119@gmail.com or susan.keil@gmail.com with any questions or for more information.

Also, because I wanted to keep things light for Halloween (good luck with that right?), OMG LOOK IT’S A DOG DRESSED LIKE AN ICE CREAM SUNDAE!

null

This little bowl of delightfulness is named Blair, and she’s available for adoption through the Humane Society of Missouri. (I know, I had to travel all the way to Chesterfield, MO to find a rescue group that showcases their dogs in silly outfits. The injustice of it all!) She’s a nine-year-old Welsh Corgi and you should totally adopt her ’cause she’s been at the shelter since August and that’s entirely too long. For serious!

So help these ladies out, mkay? If not by adopting, then by sharing.

Have a happy and safe Halloween, y’all!
