Find-a-Friend Friday: Monty

Meet Monty, y’all! He’s a big, beautiful German Shepherd boy who’s enjoying his new-found freedom, having recently been sprung from a puppy mill. He needs a new family to hold his paw while he adjusts to life on the outside. Maybe that’s you?

Here’s the “full Monty” (see what I did there!), via Missouri German Shepherd Rescue (MOGS for short):

Monty
German Shepherd Dog: An adoptable dog in Kansas City, MO
Large • Adult • Male

MONTY is a GORGEOUS red and black male who is going to make someone a stunning lifetime companion!

Monty had a rough start. He was a breeder dog who was used to mass produce litter after litter of pups. He came to us very unsure of humans and absolutely terrified of collars and leashes! He was clearly left in his kennel 24/7 and taken out ONLY to breed. He shows signs of having been forced to come out at the puppy mill — he bolts at anything that sounds like a chain and the minute the leash tightens he would start to bolt. He’s already doing MUCH better, though, in just a short time.

He was understandably scared, since his entire world had just turned upside down! He lived in a kennel all his life and touched grass for the first time when he came to us (wasn’t quite sure what it was, either).

Everything is new and different for Monty — he’s just learning to enjoy human company! As with most puppy mill dogs, he has to learn to trust humans. He’s incredibly smart and will be a wonderful dog once he gets the hang of ‘normal’ living as a loved pet. He’s so used to being an object, used for production, that he simply has to learn the good life. But it’s already clear he’s going to be an amazing boy for the right family.

Since Monty still needs some work to regain his trust, we recommend no children at this time. He was fine with the other female GSD’s from the same puppy mill but we have not yet tested him with other dogs. He actually has given a small kiss to his foster mom, and seems to do fine with the cats in the foster house.

With consistent TLC, training and patience, Monty will make a wonderful companion.

His ideal family: a quiet household where he can gradually get used to the idea of life with a loving family. An experienced and strong GSD leader who will train him well.

Are YOU the loving and fortunate family who will give Monty the life he so deserves?

Monty’s adoption fee is $300.00.

This fee covers a portion of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save. It includes the dog’s spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccinations, deworming and microchip.

Interested in adopting Monty?

Important Information Regarding MOGS Dogs:

• All dogs adopted through MOGS are considered to be an inside family pet and may not be kept outside 24/7.

• IF YOU ARE UNWILLING OR UNABLE TO MAKE A LIFETIME COMMITTMENT, please do not apply for a dog. We ask that you make a lifetime commitment to the care, love and safety of your adoptive dog.

• We spend huge amounts of time and our own money to save these lives. Our goal is simple: for each dog to have a forever home. We do not want any MOGS DOG to ever again end up in trouble or be at risk.

Thank you for considering a homeless dog or cat.

What are you waiting for? Adopt this guy!

Saturday Garbage Plate, 2012-02-11

I may have just eaten this entire pizza by myself. I'm pretty sure it doesn't count, since it's vegan.

Find-a-Friend Friday: Spooky and Stormy

Spooky and Stormy! Spooky is the black cat. I think!
Photos courtesy of Heartland SPCA.

Meet Spooky and Stormy, a bewitching pair of older sisters who suddenly found themselves homeless when their person passed away. At twelve years of age, these ladies still have plenty of life left in them – life they’d like to spend with you! And each other!

Here’s what Heartland SPCA (formerly Animal Haven, I think? that’s where we adopted O-Ren!) has to say about Spooky and Stormy:

Spooky
Domestic Short Hair Mix: An adoptable cat in Merriam, KS
Medium • Senior • Male

Doesn’t the name Spooky tell you so much about me? Well, maybe not so much. I am actually sweet, affectionate, dependable and just a regular good old little lady. Ive gone through a bit of a rough patch in the last month and I am hoping someone with a kind heart will bring me into their home and help me heal. Unfortunately, my owner passed away and I now make my home at the Heartland SPCA with my sister Stormy. We have been together all 12 years of our lives so we need to find a home where we can both call our own. Also, we are both front declawed. I’m a little overwhelmed by the shelter environment, so I would love to find a family who can provide me with a calm and quiet home. I love chin and neck rubs and once I know you, I am quite the purr machine. I have the softest black coat and a kind face with warm eyes. I look forward to the day that I can find someone to love again and I hope that someone is you. Please consider taking my sister Stormy and I home today!

# Kansas City & surrounding area adoptions only. No out-of-state adoptions (outside of KS or MO).
# $75 for cats; $90 for kittens. This adoption fee includes spay or neuter, microchip identification, FVRCP vaccine, dewormer, rabies vaccine (ages 4 months & up), feline leukemia test, flea treatment, ear mite treatment, and a 4-pound bag of Science Diet food.
# Log onto www.animalhavenkc.org for more information about our agency.
# Applications available at the shelter.
# THANK YOU for adopting a shelter cat!

More about Spooky
Spayed/Neutered • Up-to-date with routine shots • House trained • Declawed • Primary color: Black

I actually don’t see Stormy’s listing on Petfinder, but I’m guessing that the Heartland SPCA just made one listing for both cats. I hope anyway! The alternatives are too just depressing. Anyway, adopt them! Today!

* Bewitching! See what I did there?

** Or is Spooky a dude? I CAN’T TELL!
